Katy Dog Suits Closes as of August, 1 2022 (the dogs abandoned were NOT left by Doggedly)

As of August 2022 Katy Dog Suits, the main location where Doggedly was keeping the Forgotten Dogs (aside from back bedrooms) has closed. Unfortunately, this has given Doggedly an additional avenue to move and hide dogs with 0 accountability.

Despite the fact that Doggedly DID NOT abandon dogs at KDS, the posts above show a pattern of behavior that this facility actively participated in by allowing rescues to stash dogs at KDS for years on end.

How Barb talks about dogs... "jokes"

Why does it matter?

Bare minimum 5 freedoms of animal welfare include:

* Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
* Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease
* Freedom from Fear and Distress
* Freedom from Discomfort
* Freedom to Express Species Typical Behavior

Living in a crate 23 hours a day or boarding for years....

Hunger? Probably, usually. Thirst? +/-
Pain, Injury, Disease - unlikely, especially considering most are HW+ or medically fragile.
Fear and Distress - absolutely not
Discomfort - no, how comfortable is being jammed in a crate/kennel run surrounded by other barking distressed dogs.
Species Typical Behavior - absolutely not.

This constitutes as:

Animal suffering.

A life not worth living.

Incompetent caregiving.

ANIMAL CRUELTY

Why does it matter?

"No social animal gets better in solitary confinement" - Trish McMillan

The bottom line is, the way these dogs are being housed and cared for is inhumane. We would go as far as to say it constitutes as animal cruelty.

Imagine living in a crate 23 hours a day, only looking forward to being fed and 1-2 short potty breaks a day. All day long you sit in boredom surrounded by other distressed dogs dealing with the same thing. Is that a life worth living?

Keeping dogs in kennels can literally drive them insane.

Rescue Group Best Practices - How many does Doggedly follow?

  • No budget or business plan
  • 4 board members, 3 of which had absolutely no say, one of which was inactive, one of which has since resigned (so 2 board members?)
  • Only fundraise by posting urgent animal pleas on Facebook and Cuddly
  • Do not follow the 5 freedoms
  • " Cages, crates and carriers that are intended for travel or short-term, temporary confinement are unacceptable as primary enclosures... "
  • House dogs in crates as primary enclosures
  • "Animals’ primary housing areas must also be safe and able to be thoroughly sanitized."
  • Animals are sometimes housed in dangerous and unsanitary enclosures
  • "Ensuring that all animals are appropriately vaccinated is a critical"
  • Animals are sometimes not appropriately vaccinated, rescue is unwilling to provide proof of vetting
  • "Appropriate health care, including routine and preventive care, should be provided to all animals in your organization’s charge. Track and record typical indicators of health like weight, temperature and body condition score"
  • Animals are often denied routine health and preventive care
  • Records are sloppily maintained at best, fabricated at worst
  • Most microchips are often never registered
  • Animals receive little to no enrichment
  • Animals receive little to no social interaction with humans or other animals
  • They have no insurance
  • They have no veterinary policy
  • They have no euthanasia policy
  • 0 transparency, often blocking anyone who asks even the most basic questions
  • Barbara often ignores communication attempts and tells volunteers to "ghost" people, including adopters
  • Foster homes are often way over capacity or provided little to no support
  • "Under no circumstances should a rescue group acquire pets by stealing them from their owners "
  • Animals have no plan
  • Inappropriate length of stays, often for no valid reason
  • Often do not utilize foster homes
  • Absolutely 0 disaster preparedness
  • Imagine if there were a fire in Barb's house or flood in her neighborhood - how would they move +/- 20,30,40? dogs some of which have severe dog and/or human aggression.
  • Imagine if there were a disaster at the boarding facility, where no volunteers are allowed to go without Barb, about an hour away from where she lives -how would they move +/- 20,30,40? dogs some of which have severe dog and/or human aggression.
  • Imagine is there was a disaster that effected both places at the same time...
